Introduction to the MG Comet EV
Hello Guys! Welcome to EcoWheelsIndia. Usually, when I bring you car reviews, we have some scenic background, and you can experience it with us. But let’s be real: most of our time is spent on city roads, often stuck in traffic. Today, we’re checking out a car that claims to be perfect for these conditions—the MG Comet EV.
First Impressions
As soon as you see the MG Comet EV, you notice it’s a small car with a tiny footprint. It’s even smaller than the sub-4 meter cars we often talk about. This one is under 3 meters long, about 1.5 meters wide, and 1.6 meters tall, with a ground clearance of 165 mm. Compact and easy to maneuver! Let’s explore MG Comet EV Specifications.
Futuristic Design

MG Comet EV looks like a concept car brought to life. There’s a wide DRL (Daytime Running Light), and the MG logo doubles as the charging socket. Just press the logo and it reveals the charging port. It’s worth noting that it supports slow charging, taking about 5 hours to charge up to 80% and around 7 hours for a full charge.
You also get vertically stacked LED headlamps, with turn indicators integrated into the bumpers. The bumpers have a grille for cooling, giving the front a sleek, futuristic appearance.
Unique Side Profile

The car stands out from the side with its big windows and large doors that make getting in and out easy. The vertical door handles are quite cool and unique. There’s an electric badge on the rear, piano black ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors), and a chrome strip that connects to another chrome strip on the hood, adding a touch of elegance.
The Comet EV comes with regular steel wheels, but they have stylish chrome and black wheel caps. You can even customize a few elements to suit your taste.
Distinct Rear Styling

The rear of the MG Comet EV is equally striking. The connected tail lamps run across the car’s width, giving it a modern look. The rear spoiler seamlessly extends from the roof, looking like an integrated part of the design. There’s a defogger on the rear windshield, though it lacks a rear washer wiper. You also get a high-mounted stop lamp, MG logo, Comet badge, EV badging, and an “Internet Inside” badge.
Limited Boot Space
Opening the tailgate reveals a small boot space when the second row is up. You can keep the portable charger and tools like a puncture repair kit here. However, the rear seats fold flat in a 50-50 split, allowing for more luggage space if needed. Perfect for keeping laptop bags, tiffin bags, or small shopping bags.
Impressive Interior

Stepping inside the MG Comet EV, you might be pleasantly surprised. Despite its modest exterior, the interior is fantastic for the car’s size and purpose. The doors are wide, allowing you to rest your hand comfortably while driving. The door pads are heavy and come with soft-touch materials on the armrests.
The dashboard has a dual-tone finish, with gray on top, beige in the middle, and silver and black accents around the center console and AC vents. There are two cup holders placed in front of the AC vents, which can also hold small items and keep them cool.
Safety and Technology
The car is equipped with ABS+EBD and two airbags. It lacks features like ESP or vehicle stability control, but it does have a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with two speakers. The sound quality is quite good, and the small cabin means two speakers are enough. In addition, you have access to wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The reverse parking camera has clear, dynamic guidelines, making it easy to park. While there’s an optional front camera, it’s not available for the Indian market.
Driver Display

On the left side of the instrument cluster, you get controls for displaying volt, current, trip meters, odometer, and driving mode indicator. On the right, it shows the speedometer, range, battery percentage, and other useful information. The center display shows an icon of your car, and even lights up the brakes when you apply them—quite a neat detail.
Comfort and Convenience
The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and has controls for the instrument cluster and media. There are stalks for wipers and headlights, though it lacks automatic headlights. Interestingly, the car doesn’t have a glove box, but there’s a shelf on the dashboard for small items. The door pads have massive storage space, enough to hold a laptop, multiple bottles, or other belongings
Second Row Experience
Getting into the second row is easy with a single lever to push the front seat forward. Once inside, you’ll find decent knee room and headroom. The large windows make the cabin feel more spacious. However, the high floor means thigh support is lacking, making it suitable for short trips rather than long journeys. The second row also has seatbelt sensors that alert you to buckle up.
Driving the MG Comet EV
Driving the MG Comet EV is a breeze. It has a 17.3 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that produces 42 PS of power and 110 NM of torque. Despite its small size, it drives like any other car. The steering feedback is good, and it handles well, making city driving enjoyable.

City Performance
The MG Comet EV excels in city traffic. Its small size allows you to navigate through gaps easily, and the 110 NM torque helps in quick getaways. The NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels are well-managed, keeping the cabin quiet. The suspension is on the firmer side, so rough patches and uneven roads don’t filter into the cabin much.
In heavy traffic, this car shines. You don’t have to worry about finding space to squeeze through. The ease of maneuvering and parking makes it perfect for daily commutes. Driving it in sports mode is fun, and you can comfortably cover 30-40 kms daily.Charging it at home every two or three days is sufficient for city driving.
Parking Made Easy

Parking the MG Comet EV is hassle-free. Its compact size and clear reverse camera make it easy to fit into tight spots. However, taking it on highways or expressways isn’t advisable due to its limited power and torque.
Visibility and Build Quality
The visibility from the driver’s seat is outstanding, offering a clear view of the surroundings. You feel like you’re driving something premium and well-made. Compared to other affordable hatchbacks, the build quality of the Comet EV stands out.
Conclusion: Is the MG Comet EV for You?
So, there you have it—the MG Comet EV. It might not be your primary car, but it’s a fantastic secondary option for city use. Its range is decent, and the features make urban mobility easier. With benefits like lower registration costs and running costs, it’s an attractive option.
